Maye was unused most of the season in 2021 despite being third on the depth chart before his true freshman season. He redshirted and played in four games over the season.

He was named the starter on August 22, 2022. Moreover, the 20-year-old prospect was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022.

Moreover, he was named First-team All-ACC and Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year.

Drake Maye Has A Family Of Five

Drake Maye comes from an athletic family. Mark coached him throughout middle school and high school.

Young Maye is one of the most promising prodigies in college football and the starter for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

His parents have participated in college sports, and his brothers have also made many careers in different sports.

Drake was born as the youngest son to Amie and Mark Maye in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 30, 2002. He grew up playing football with his father.

The youngest Maye, a 6'5" quarterback, frequently introduces himself by mentioning his brothers.

The household of the star quarterback has been loyal to North Carolina. It might be a significant reason why the 2022 ACC Player of the Year chose to play for the Tar Heels, despite agreeing to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

He is the second generation of Maye to play college football after his dad, Mark, in the 1980s. Likewise, he has three brothers named Cole, Luke, and Beau.

The couple has been traveling between the basketball courts, football fields, and baseball fields to support their kids during their games.

Drake, who saw his mother's proficiency in Basketball and Father's skills in Football, chose the later sports as his passion. However, the 20-year-old player has previously said that his parents did not pressure him to pursue his career in sports or Football.

Mark Is A Former Football Player

Mark was a two-year starter for the Tar Heels in 1986-87 under coach Crum. The former Tar Heels player played quarterback for the team in the 1980s. He was a Parade All-American and a starter on the team.

He recalls starting his first significant game for North Carolina against No. 15 Florida State on September 20, 1986. He claims that he made an effort to avoid throwing passes near Florida State defender Deion Sanders.

According to On3, Maye's Father has been his coach for his entire life, both as the head coach up through middle school and as the quarterback coach till college.

Mark would always be there to advise on mechanics, dropbacks, and the finer points of the position, even if he may not be as familiar with the North Carolina offense as his son.

During an interview with sportingnews, Drake claims that his father is currently into stock trading. The 20-year-old player claimed that his father gets up when the stock market opens, and he works until 4:30 when the stock market closes.

Furthermore, Mark is usually working after hours. He attempts to establish a specific type of passion among his kids.

Following his graduation from North Carolina, Mark looked for a coaching position under the new head coach. When Brown joined the Tar Heels for the first time in 1988, he hired Mark as a graduate assistant.

Later on, Drake would benefit from that connection as he is one of the best players in the squad, thanks to Brown's trust in the youngster.

Aimee Is A Former Basketball Player

Drake's mother, Amiee, played school basketball in the Charlotte area. She inspired her son Luke to pursue his career in Basketball.

She has made a decent name for herself as an athlete. Mark once claimed that his son Drake is lucky as he believes his youngest son inherited more of Aimee's and very few of his genes.
