Football players In The 2004 Movie
Friday Night Lights football players cover Michael "Mike" Winchell (QB), James "Boobie" Miles (RB), Donald "Donny" Billingsley (TB), Brian Chávez (DE) and more.
Christopher "Chris" Comer was the second running back in line after Miles, while Ivory Christian played as the Linebacker for the team.
The then-HS football players barely ended up playing college football and never in the National Football League. Most of them ended up choosing a career other than professional football.
Michael Winchell
Winchell is indulged as an employee in an Oil Service Company as of 2023. The organization is located near Denton.
On the side of his football career, Michael played the well-fitted role of a Starting Quarterback for the team. Although having huge potential he was notably shy and insecure regarding his skills.
His junior year in the school marked his debut in the position. As a gifted athlete and student, Winchell marked many all-time records for the Permian High School for throwing yards, pass completion, and touchdown passes.
Despite all the achievements, his teammates didn't have much belief in him as he was known for clinching up when the game came closer. Some universities such as Yale and Brown did show some interest in him but the board members viewed him as not eligible.
His underprivileged status never let him live his high school life openly and he ended up not playing CFB although football was the only way for him to fulfill his dream of settling in some different part of the country.
James "Boobie" Miles
Miles was the primary character in Bissinger's book who played the position of running back for the Permian Panthers football team.
The RB rushed for 1,345 yards in 1987. James was so good in his position that he got offer letters from various top schools around the country. The AP poll's prediction clearly indicated the Panthers as the strong contender for the 1988 state championship.
Expectations of the people of Odessa were high, however, Miles tore his ACL on an artificial turf during a scrimmage in the preseason game against Amarillo Palo Duro Dons.
Boobie returned in the game against AHS and had a cramp which made him return to the bench.
When he made a comeback after the surgery, his speed and agility were gone and the player ended up in the fullback position. Because of what the injured player has become, he was criticized by the fans and he left the team and never played again for the team.
After high school, he got an offer letter from Ranger College to play college football but couldn't perform well and failed out in the academic year of 1989-1990.
Brian Chavez
Chavez is a lawyer currently practicing in Odessa. He is a former Permian Panthers tight end and defensive line player.
As per Bissinger's book, Brian was the diamond among rocks. He played for the team wearing a #85 jersey. Though he had an excellent play during the time, the then-footballer knew that he could not play football forever.
Chavez wanted to go to Harvard and he eventually succeeded without playing college football. Brian did his graduation in law and returned to Odessa to serve the city as an attorney.
Besides, Ivory Christian was the LB and was filled with excellent athleticism and reflexes. Christian became the only player in senior year to receive a Division I football scholarship from Texas Christian University.
