Since the establishment of the NFL in the 1920s, many collegiate players have left a mark on them. Many of these famous stars come from a powerful NCAA team that has dominated the CFB for multiple years.

Alabama is one of the top collegiate teams in the NCAA D1 history, with a rich history and tremendous achievements. Founded in 1892, the franchise has claimed 18 national titles and 5 unclaimed ones. Their recent title run came in 2020.

To date, the Crimson Tide has registered 963 wins and has won 29 SEC Conference championships. Coached by Nick Saban today, the team has performed exceptionally under him, with 6 title wins and a 199-28 win-loss record.

Crimson Tide has produced great players in its program history, including 4 Heisman trophy winners. Out of them, 3 have been active in the 2023 season. They are Derrick Henry, Bryce Young, and DeVonta Smith.

In the latest season, only one player has been playing for the SF 49ers, i.e. Cameron Latu in the Tight End role. However, fans have witnessed many Bama athletes in the past.

Cameron Latu

Drafted in 2023 as the third-rounder, Cameron Latu has not made a significant impact on his professional career for the 49ers. He has yet to play a single game as a 49er.

The 23-year-old TE got picked as a 101st OVR and has shown good prospects in the long run. With a 6’5” and 244 lb build, he has great potential if utilized appropriately.

However, Latu did not get selected into the active roster for the 203 season and was placed in the Injured Reserve on 29 August. The presence of top TE like George Kittle has certainly limited his active status for the team as of now.

Cameron began his Bama career in the 2018 season as a linebacker. That year, the redshirt player only got involved in 1 match. The next year, Latu played 10 games for the Bama franchise from the special team side.

His breakthrough year came in the 2021 season, where Junior Cameron played 15 matches, and generated 410 receiving yards from 26 receptions. He also contributed 8 TDs. His Senior year saw him make 377 receiving yards and 4 TDs from 11 games.

In his entire 5 years journey for the Crimson Tide Franchise, Latu made 12 Touchdowns from 787 receiving yards and 56 receptions. He averaged 14.1 yards per reception.

Reuben Foster

Reuben Foster played for only two years in the National Football League. All those two years were spent at the San Francisco 49ers.

Drafted in 2017 in the first round as the 31st OVR pick, Rueben immediately made it to the active 53-man roster in his debut year, playing 10 games for the team and starting all 10.

He also established 59 solo tackles and 72 combined ones in 2017, while making 5 QB hits and 1 pass deflection. For his valiant efforts, Foster was voted third in the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

His second year saw him make only 6 starts. Foster made 29 combined tackles and 25 solo tackles in 2018. However, the organization later released him due to his personal legal issues.

During his four-year collegiate career in Bama, Foster contributed a total of 223 tackles and 7 sacks. His CFB career peaked in 2016 during his Senior season, where he made 115 tackles and 5 sacks from 15 matches. He helped his team win the 2015 National Championship trophy.

Quinton Dial

Quinton Dial is a former NFL Defensive Lineman for the 49ers who was active in the team from 2013 to 2016. He joined Green Bay in 2017 for his final year.

Drafted by the San Francisco in 2013, Dial was selected in the fifth round, 157th OVR. In his debut year, the 6’5” DL played only 3 games. However, he started to make his mark in the second year, when he played 14 games for the team as a Nose Tackle.

He returned to his DL duties in 2015, and this was the peak of his NFL career. This year marked him starting 15 games and accounted for 59 combined tackles and 32 solo ones. His last year as a 49er was in 2016, where Quinton made 11 starts from 14 games, and made 24 solo tackles.

In his 4-year career for the SF franchise, Dial contributed 4.5 sacks, 126 combined tackles, and 78 solo ones. He also added 4 pass deflections to his name during his SF tenure.

Born in Alabama’s Pinson, the AL native joined the East Mississippi CC in his initial years but then transferred to Crimson Tide for his final two seasons.

As a DL, Quinton quickly jumped into the D1 scenario in his junior year, playing 12 matches for Bama and establishing 24 tackles and 1 sack.

Likewise, Dial made 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his senior year for the team, i.e. 2012. During Quinton’s Bama years, the Crimson Tide became national champions back to back.

Justin Smiley

Smiley is a former Offensive Guard for the SF 49ers who played for the Californian franchise from 2004 to 2007. He moved to the Dolphins in the 2008 season.

Playing 4 years in the 49ers, Justin was a consistent starter for 16 games in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. His debut year saw him play 16 games, but start only 9 of them.

The 6’3” Guard only played 8 matches in his final year for the team. Overall, he played 56 games for the 49ers.

The former Bama OL was drafted in 2004 as a second-round pick. He is a native of Georgia.

Saleem Rasheed

Drafted in 2002, the third-round pick by the 49ers played 6 games for the team in his debut year. He spent his entire NFL career for the 49ers.

The Linebacker played all 4 years of his NFL journey as a non-starter. In 2003, Saleem played 16 games but started only 1 of them. Similarly, 2004 saw him make only 2 starting appearances from 14 games.

For the SF franchise, Rasheed went to play 45 games (starting only 4), and created 3 pass deflections. He also contributed 1 sack, 58 combined tackles, and 41 solo ones.

In his collegiate years at Bama, Rasheed played only one year for the team, i.e. in 1999. He played in the punt and kick return parts, making 12 appearances.

Larry Roberts

Roberts is a former Defensive End for the 49ers who was active from 1986 to 1993. He spent 8 years on the team.

Dedicating his entire NFL career to the 49ers, Larry played the majority of the games during the first half of his career, i.e. from 1986 to 1989. After that, he only got to play sparsely, One exception is 1991 where he played 16 matches.

Drafted in the second round, Roberts has played a total of 89 matches for the team, while making 1 interception and 28 sacks. He also won two Super Bowls as a 49er in XXIII and XXIV.

As a Crimson Tide player, Larry was initially a TE but eventually became a DE. During his senior season, he made 48 tackles.

Wilbur Jackson

A first-round pick and a successful Alabama RB, Jackson played 5 years in the San Francisco 49ers from 1974 to 1979. He later moved to Washington Redskins in 1980.

In his debut season, Wilbur got the opportunity to play 14 games, while starting 13 of them. He recorded 705 rushing yards from 174 attempts but did not attain a rushing TD. However, he did make 2 receiving TDs.

He was prominent from 1976 to 1979 as the starting RB. In 1977, Wibur contributed 780 rushing yards from 179 attempts and scored 7 TDs. This was the personal best TD record in his entire career.

In his entire five-year stint for the SF franchise, Jackson made 10 rushing TDs with 2955 rushing yards and 745 attempts.

A native of Alabama, Jackson played for the Crimson Tide from 1971 to 1973 and recorded 17 rushing TDs in total. He showcased great performances in the 1971 and 1973 seasons, playing 11 games and making 8 rushing TDs each year.
