Is Justin Jefferson Getting Traded?
No, Justin Jefferson is in no way part of a trade, and he will stay at Minnesota for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The speculation of the Cincinnati Bengals going after the Wide Receiver started a year ago on Reddit. 'The Vikings Offers To Trade Justin Jefferson For Three First Round Pick, Do You Approve The Trade?" was posted in r/bengals.
The overall hypothetical scenario was the exchange of Jefferson for the first-round picks from 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The Bengals fans were curious about the trade and had different views. Many of them knew the franchise's situation with upcoming big contracts.
Klutzy_Sentence1526 disagreed with the deal, like many other users. The Reddit user stated that accumulating draft picks is the key to long-term success. The WR might produce outright success but will hamper the team in the long run with the loss of three first-round selections.
Likewise, another sub-Reddit post stated the rumor about the receiver reuniting with his LSU teammates. It was responded to with witty replies.
Konmugis replied, "My sources tell me he's bringing his old teammates to Minnesota actually." MyBluMind wrote, "That's funny, I heard Joe Burrow and Chase were coming to the Vikes for the same reason."
Some made jokes about the source of the news. "Source: trust me bro," and "My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw JJ out at 31 Flavors last night" will have in chuckles.
Similarly, a TikTok video titled "JUSTIN JEFFERSON TRADED TO THE BENGALS?!" circulated online. It can be a shocker at first glance but it was an April Fools' trick.
A TikTok user called 'nflmike' posted the video on 1st April 2023.
It was a well-made clip with screenshots of tweets from the player and various other trusted sources. The fake tweet by JJETS read, "LET'S GRIDDY CINCY. Lock in @JamarrChase @JoeBurrow let's make history again."
It also had sportswriter Ian Rapoport's made-up tweet. It said, "The Vikings are trading WR J. Jefferson to Cincinnati in exchange for Tyler Boyd, 4 draft picks. Jefferson reunites with college teammates Joe Burrow and Jamarr Chase."
How can Jefferson be traded to the Bengals?
Let's take a moment to think if the trade deal can be a reality.
If it happens, the WR will reunite with his LSU Tigers teammates, and the trio will tear every defense in the league. The last time the three played was in 2019.
The Tigers were unstoppable, with an undefeated season of 15-0. They won the Nation Championship by beating the defending champions, Clemson Tigers, 42-25. They were the No. 1 AP team.
The reunification of these three superstars can replicate some of that spark for the Bengals and, hopefully, lead to their first Super Bowl win.
But how can it happen?
Jefferson will make $19 million in 2024 as a part of the contract extension. The Bengals are loaded with elite players like Burrow, Chase, and Tee Higgins, whose rookie contracts will need restricting pretty soon.
Burrow's contract has been extended to a fifth-year clause for the 2024 season while making $29.5 million, and soon he will be getting one of the most massive guaranteed money in the NFL. The other two's contracts will require the same next year.
Justin can only make it to the Bengals' roster if they offer an elite player and a few first and second-draft picks. The individual made 1,616 and 1,809 receiving yards with 10 and 8 touchdowns in 2021 and 2022. He is the 2022 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
Minnesota won't trade such a talented personality for some mediocre package.
