NFL teams with indoor stadiums total up to ten domed stadiums. Cardinals, Falcons, and Colts are three of five teams with retractable domed roofs.

Stadium retractable roofs generally take place where the weather is too cold and extreme heat frequently during the NFL sports seasons.

The reason behind the retractable roofs is to allow for playing outdoor games in more favorable conditions, as well as being comfortable for fans watching games played in unfavorable weather conditions.

The NFL has rules in stadiums with retractable roofs. In such stadiums, the home team must inform the referee or league official before kickoff as to whether the roof will open or close.

Which NFL Teams Play In A Dome?

NFL teams that play in domes are Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and others.

Indianapolis Colts

The first NFL game played in a dome was between Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants in an NFL preseason game in 1984.

Since 2008, the Indianapolis Colts have played their games in their home ground Lucas Oil Stadium but previously they played for over two decades at the RCA Dome.

The Indianapolis Colts home stadium has a retractable roof and a massive retractable window on one end which allow the Colts to play both indoor and outdoor games. Similarly, the stadium features 360-degree ribbon boards and two 53-foot-tall HD video boards.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys opened their new home ground AT&T; Stadium in 2009, after getting success in the 1990s. The Cowboys played for more than 30 years at Texas Stadium.

The home of the Dallas Cowboys AT&T; Stadium is one of the most expensive venues ever built which a total construction cost of around $1.2 billion.

The Franchise won the Super Bowls VI, XII, XXVII, and XXX. They also played in Super Bowls V, X, and XIII and making it the second most Super Bowl appearances team.

Las Vegas Raiders

The home of the Las Vegas Raiders' Allegiant Stadium is a domed stadium which is located in Paradise, Nevada. Allegiant Stadium will be hosting the Super Bowl LVII in February 2024.

The Raiders have appeared in the Super Bowl for five seasons and won the Super Bowl title three times in 1977,1981, and 1984.

Allegiant Stadium is the second most expensive venue in the world which was officially opened on July 31, 2020, the venue covers 62 acres of area.

AT&T; Stadium is a retractable roof stadium in Arlington, Texas. Build in 2009 with a peak capacity of over 1,00,000 seats, AT&T; was the largest stadium in the NFL by seating capacity.

At&T; stadium is the home of the Dallas Cowboys until 2013 and then it is also the home of the Cotton Bowl Classic.

The highest NFL attendance record was set in 2009 with a crowd of 105,121 audiences.

It also has one of the world's largest high-definition video screens.

Caesars Superdome

Caesars Superdome is a multi-purpose venue that was built in 1975 with a steel frame covering a 1-acre and 273-foot dome.

Caesars Superdome is the home ground of the New Orleans Saint Football team.

It hosted the seven Super Bowl seasons and next will be the eight Super Bowl LIX in 2025.

Sofi Stadium

The newest NFL SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angles Chargers opened in the 2020 season.

SoFi Stadium hosts major events such as Super Bowl LVI, College Football Playoff National Championship, and International Soccer Club Friendlies.

Lucas Oil Stadium

Lucas Oil Stadium officially opened in 2008 in Downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and is the home ground of the Indianapolis Colts.

Lucas Oil Stadium seats approximately 67,000 for Football and over 70,000 for basketball and other events.

It has 2 retractable roof panels and which can be opened and close for around nine to eleven minutes.

The average cost for a family of four to buy a ticket to an NFL game went from $ 346.16 to $568.18 in 2021.

The Most expensive NFL stadium to attend a game is based on the Fan Cost Index which includes the average price of tickets, parking, Concessions, and souvenirs.

Allegiant Stadium

The Las Vegas Raiders Allegiant Stadium was the most expensive with a price of $778.56 as per Fan Cost Index.

The average ticket at Allegiant Stadium costs more than $150. Moreover, it cost $17 for a hot dog and beer and $14 for a hot dog and soda.

Gillette Stadium

Gillette Stadium was built in 2000 with a capacity of 65,878 including 5,876 club seats and 89 luxury suites.

The Gillette Stadium is the home ground for New England Patriots and the Patriots won six Super Bowl titles with Tom Brady.

The average ticket cost around $131.45, and an extra $15 for a hot dog and beer to see the game at Gillette Stadium.

Levi's Stadium

According to Fan Cost Index, it costs about $ 665.5 for four family members, and the average ticket costs around $139.17 to watch the game in Levi's Stadium with the additional cost of $11.50 for beer and hot dog.

Levi's Stadium is listed in the top three of the most expensive NFL stadium for fans with a capacity of 70,000 seats.

What Is The Most Expensive NFL Stadium?

Most expensive NFL stadium to build includes SoFi Stadium, Allegiant Stadium, AT&T; Stadium, Mercedes-Benz, Levis Stadium, and U.S. Bank Stadium.

Currently, the most expensive NFL Stadium ever was built in Los Angles, which is home to both the Los Angeles Chargers and Rams.

SoFi Stadium

The most expensive ever built is SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which cost around $5.76 billion to complete the construction work.

Last year, the Stadium hosted the Super Bowl LVI which was won by the Los Angeles Rams and is scheduled to host the Summer Olympics in 2028.

The large stadium is not only for playing NFL games but also a venue for concerts and other sporting games like the Olympics.

The stadium can seat 70,240 and up to 100,240 fans and have a 4k video board featuring 70,000 square feet of digital LED lighting.

MetLife Stadium

The Metlife Stadium was built in 2010 to replace the Giants Stadium and it serves as the home for two teams, New York Giants and New York Jets.

The construction cost was estimated to be around $2.11 billion and the stadium has a capacity of 82,500 seats.

The ownership of this stadium also holds equal for both teams, each has 50% ownership of it. MetLife Stadium was the first open-air stadium in a cold weather city to host Super Bowl XVIII in 2014.

Allegiant Stadium

Allegiant Stadium cost approximately $1.9 billion to build, the construction work began in 2017 and the stadium was finally completed and opened in 2020.

Both Allegiant Stadium was opened in the same year as that of SoFi Stadium.

Allegiant is a domed stadium with a capacity of 65,000 up to 71,835 seats. and is spread across 62 acres.
