Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving halftime show 2023 is slated on 23 November against the Commanders. Dolly Parton will perform on the stage.

The franchise is the pioneer in hosting the show in the holiday fixtures that they began in 1997. During that season's Turkey Day game, Reba McEntire electrified the crowd when the team was playing against the Oilers.

The holiday in the United States is more than just a turkey. The festive also equally covers the family entertainment as well as the football. The T-day games are an inseparable part of the sports fans across America, as important as their traditional turkey dinner.

The holiday fixture which was started as an impressive marketing move by the Detroit Lions owners now has set a trend as a part of an important event. Such matchups along with other football games also feature halftime shows.

The main motive behind such shows is to invite popular artists and musicians from across the country which will subsequently attract non-sports fans and contribute to an increased number of television viewership.

Apart from the television viewership, such events have been recorded to significantly aid in the attendance of the audience in the stadium. Although the T-day game was continued by the Lions since 1934, the Cowboys are the first to feature the mid-time program.

Cowboys Thanksgiving Game History

The Cowboys began the adaptation of the Turkey Day games in 1966 as a result of GM Tex Schramm's strong interest in more publicity.

At that time the franchise was barely known as America's team and the general manager decided to adopt a marketing idea similar to the Lions which has been in the tradition since the time.

The plan worked as it gave them immense popularity. They played their first T-Day game in 1966 which was attended by 80,259 audiences.

The franchise did not host the game for two years in 1975 and 1977 when it was given to St. Louis Cardinals. During those two years, Commissioner Pete Rozelle gave the holiday fixture to the Cardinals who were less popular than the Dalls-based franchise.
