Dan Campbell Contract Breakdown
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell inked a six-year contract on January 20, 2021. Campbell negotiated a contract worth $40 million.
The team owner, Sheila Ford Hamp, said, "Dan knows the rigors of professional football and what it takes to succeed. He will help promote the culture we want to establish across our organization."
Before joining Detroit, he worked under Sean Payton in the New Orleans Saints. His annual salary was $1.5 million.
The year before Dan's arrival was total chaos for the franchise. Three people took the head coaching duty: Matt Patricia for 11 games, Darrell Bevell for five, and Robert Prince for one.
They were last in the NFC North with a record of 5-11.
Dan Campbell Era at Detroit
It wasn't a fairytale start for Campbell. His side managed to win only three while losing 13 and tying one in his inaugural 2021 season.
It looked like the same old story for the franchise, as they had been at the bottom of the NFC North division for four consecutive seasons.
The 2022 season started as a disaster for Campbell, losing six out of seven opening fixtures. The 9th October fixture against the New England Patriots was horrible, as they did not register a single point on the scorecard.
However, an unexpected turnaround occurred from Week 9 onwards. They won eight of the remaining ten games and ended the season with a record of 9- 8.
They were second in the division but barely missed the playoff berth.
The team looks balanced in 2023 and started the 2023 campaign on a winning note. They defeated the defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the NFL Kickoff game by 21 to 20.
The second game of the season did not go in their favor, as they lost to the Seattle Seahawks 37-31. But, they managed to win four consecutive games against the Atlanta Falcons (20-6), the Green Bay Packers (34-20), the Carolina Panthers (42-24), and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20-6).
Unfortunately, they lost to the Baltimore Ravens by 38 to 6, halting their winning momentum.
However, they did not let it affect them and picked up their pace. They won the next three games against the Las Vegas Raiders (26-14), the Los Angeles Chargers (41-38), and the Chicago Bears (31-26).
They will face the Packers on the 23rd of November. The Lions are 8-2 and are looking comfortable at the first place in the NFC North.
Campbell's record with the Lions is 20-23-1. They are on their way to a playoff spot and look like solid contenders to win the division.
